Hvide Sande Skibssmedie was founded in 1932 by blacksmith Jens Hansen.

HIt is said that Jens Hansen passed through Hvide Sande on his motorbike at the time when the town’s lock was being built. He realised that there was a basis for establishing a ship’s smithy, which he then started up in a small tool shed.

After some years, the smithy ran into space problems, and Jens Hansen built a workshop at the address where the Imerco shop is now situated.

In 1964, Hans Fjord Aaser bought into Hvide Sande Skibssmedie, and on Jens Hansen’s death in 1968, Hans Fjord took over the remaining share and thus became sole proprietor.

In 1977, the smithy moved to completely new buildings on Nordhavnskaj. However, it was only a handful of years before there were space problems again, and an extension was required. The smithy now has a production area of 800 m2.

After a gradual generational change, Kristen Krogh took over the company from Hans Fjord Aaser in 1997, and in 2007 engineer Toke Pedersen became co-owner of Hvide Sande Skibssmedie.
