The Kerteminde ice plant project started when the chairman of the Kerteminde Fisheries’ Association, Søren Boll Clausen, contacted Hvide Sande Skibssmedie A/S to enquire about the possibility of supplying an ice plant for Kerteminde Harbour.
Hvide Sande Skibssmedie A/S, with 25 years' experience in the planning and construction of ice plants in Denmark and abroad, started clarifying the requirements and expectations for the plant. It soon became clear that there was a requirement for a plant with a small storage capacity, but with a large production capacity, which allows the stock to be filled quickly if needed.
The IceScrew plant which we have made before suits the purpose well. The plant is built on a screw conveyor bottom, which ensures a balanced supply of the ice on the bottom of the silo, unlike the IceRake type plants.
Kerteminde Isværk has three levels.
In addition to the compressors supplying refrigeration for the ice production and the silo, a refrigeration chamber is connected to the system. The refrigeration chamber is located close to the ice works in a separate building and can be used for storage of fish until the carrier takes them to the auction.
